These days i am working on LEDs and stroblights for an interactive installation. When I was looking at getting Kinect working with Processing to add some extra features in the installation, i stumbled upon ‘Zoetrope‘
A zoetrope is a device that produces the illusion of motion from a rapid succession of static pictures. Basically, you have ‘frames’ that you would normally sketch on paper in 3D. You fit them on a circular base and rotate the disc. Now, you need a stroboscope to flash light on the rotating disc at a high frequency so that every frame on the disc ‘appears’ stationary in time. This gives you an illusion of live animation in 3d, which you can see!
The video from pixar explains it very well. See here
There is a very good tutorial that i found, which explains how to transform your any body movement into a working zoestrope. Here. There have used Processing and Kinect in a very interesting way, worth giving a shot I say!
